Direct Billing for Your Convenience
Navigating insurance coverage for therapy can feel overwhelming. My goal is to make this process as clear and straightforward as possible so you can focus on your well-being.
We work with the following providers:
- NIHB (Non-Insured Health Benefits for First Nations and Inuit): We are a registered provider with the NIHB
- Greenshield Canada: Direct billing for clients with Greenshield insurance plans.
- Other Insurance Providers: Most health benefit plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Nurse.
For all providers other than NIHB and Greenshield, you will be required to pay for the session upfront. I will provide you with a detailed receipt containing all the necessary information (including my CNO registration number) for you to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
I recommend asking the following questions:
- Are psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Nurse (RN), registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, covered under my plan?
- What is my total coverage amount per person, per year for mental health or psychotherapy services?
- Is there a maximum amount covered per session?
- Do I need a physician's referral or a doctor's note to be eligible for coverage?
Occasionally, an initial claim might be denied by an insurance provider, even if your plan includes coverage. This can often be resolved through your provider's standard appeal process. Should this occur, I am happy to provide you with a letter or any required documentation to support your appeal.
In the event that your insurance provider does not offer coverage, or if an appeal is unsuccessful, please know that you can still benefit financially.
Psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Nurse are recognized as a medical expense by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). You can claim the full amount of your receipts on your annual income tax return under the Medical Expense Tax Credit. Please consult with an accountant or visit the CRA website for more details.
